Lists are your family's home for keeping track of it all. Organize with categories, set reminders, drag and drop to reorder, and more.

Your Built-In Lists: To-dos & Grocery List
Your Hearth account comes with two built-in Lists that can't be renamed or deleted, so they're always right where you expect them:
- To-dos: Your family-wide To-do List for everyone in the household. Complete a recurring To-do on time at least 2 times in a row and your avatar earns a Streak Badge!
- Grocery List: Stay on top of your family's grocery needs. Add a quantity to any item so you always know exactly what to pick up at the store.
Creating a New List
There are two ways to create a List in the mobile Companion App:
- Tap the teal + on the bottom right and select Add a List, or
- Tap Lists in the bottom navigation, then tap the + at the top right.
Name your List and choose your settings. Toggle on Show on Display if you'd like your List to appear on your Hearth Display. Lists are private and hidden from the Display by default, which is perfect for gift ideas and surprises!
Adding & Editing a To-do
Tap any To-do to open the editor, where you can customize:
- List — which List the To-do lives on
- Category — file it into a section of your List (see Categories below)
- Priority — flag your most important items
- Date Due & Time Due — set exactly when it needs to happen
- Repeats — make it recurring
- Reminders — get a nudge on your Display or in the app
- Assignee — assign it to a specific family member
- Stars — attach a star value to be earned on completion
- Notes — add extra information to your To-do
Organizing with Categories
Categories are sections within a List; think "Produce" and "Dairy" in your Grocery List, or "Morning" and "After School" in To-dos. Two ways to use them:
- Automatic: Tap the star icon (✨) at the top left of your List and Hearth will sort uncategorized items into categories for you, creating new ones where needed. Items you've already categorized stay put.
- Manual: Tap the ••• at the top right of your List and select Edit Categories to create and manage your own.
Categories are created in the mobile app. On the Display, use filters to re-organize your List by category.
Sorting, Grouping & Filters
Make any List look exactly how your family thinks:
- Drag and drop To-dos to reorder them just the way you want (mobile app only).
- Group by Profile, Category, or Date.
- Sort by Custom (your drag-and-drop order), Date, Priority, Newest to Oldest, Oldest to Newest, or Alphabetical.
- Filter by profile or date
Tap the ↑↓ icon at the top of your List to open the Group by & Sort by options.
Custom List Settings
Every custom List you create can be tailored to fit its purpose. Tap the ••• at the top right of your List and select Settings to:
- Scheduling — choose whether To-dos on this List use due dates
- Streaks — enable Streaks on this List
- Quantity — track item quantities, just like the Grocery List
- Sharing — share the List with other family members, or keep it private
List Tools: Reset & Mark All Complete
Tap the ••• at the top right of any List:
- Edit Categories — create and manage your List's sections
- Reset List — uncheck completed To-dos to start fresh (great for recurring routines and repeat grocery runs!)
- Mark All Complete — check off everything at once
Lists on Your Display
- Custom Lists appear on your Display when View on Display is toggled on (To-dos and Grocery List are always there).
- Use Display filters to view your List by category.
- The Lists tab always stays how you left it; keep your Grocery List open for easy access anytime.
