Google & Hearth
We leverage Google Calendar so that importing existing information and making the most of Hearth right away is as easy as possible. Below are some limitations to how Google and Hearth work together:
- Calendar connections are per profile, and you can connect multiple Google Calendars to a single Hearth profile. If needed, a sub-calendar can be reassigned as shown here.
- Google family calendar functions as a shared Google subcalendar. Hearth functions on a per-profile basis. If you want this calendar to show under each profile, each profile will need to import this calendar individually. Learn more about our profiles here. Google events cannot be individually reassigned.
- Google events are not editable on Hearth. They are view-only.
- For each profile with a connected Google account, a Hearth sub-calendar will be published to their Google account when they first create an event on Hearth. Any event added to Hearth will appear on this sub-calendar when you assign yourself and other family members. This calendar has two-way sync enabled and can be edited from both your personal Google account and the Hearth Display. Please check out this video to learn more.
This is how we recommend setting up your family so you can get the most out of syncing your Google account with Hearth.
To get started:
1. Invite any adults to create their account and connect their Google Calendar. In doing so, they will be able to view their Google events on the Hearth Display and Hearth Companion app.
2. If your child doesn’t require access to the Hearth Companion app, you’ll be able to reassign any of your imported Google subcalendars so those events show under their profile. Learn how to reassign Google calendars here.
3. If you’d like your child to access the Hearth Companion app from a mobile device and they have an existing Google Account and Google Calendar, their Hearth Profile will need to be created with a unique email and password. From your Hearth account, invite your child to the Hearth Family via their Google email, and create a password for their account (or use Google single sign-on).
Additional Notes:
The Hearth Calendar URL
To view all of your Hearth events from all profiles as view-only or to share your Hearth Calendar with external parties, you can share the Hearth Calendar URL. Navigate to the Companion App, tap manage calendars under the menu, and tap on Hearth Calendar at the top. This calendar can be exported and shared as a URL to any calendar and can be used to see all events on Google as well. Please note that this is a view-only public calendar and by sharing this URL you will share all events created on the Hearth Display.
